Well, I do believe that modern science
is familiar with RAD. From
'emedicine' (scroll down),using the American Psychological Association's definition:
Reactive attachment disorder Reactive attachment disorder (RAD), as defined by the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV), requires etiologic factors, such as gross deprivation of care or successive multiple caregivers, for diagnosis. And also from MedicinePlus:Reactive attachment disorder is a disturbance of social interaction caused by neglect of a child's basic physical and emotional needs, particularly during infancy.
It may be a relatively newly recognized phenomenon but it is nonetheless recognized and defined by medical groups. And medical groups are part of modern science.
