I believe that Harriet Miers will be confirmed but at considerable political cost. Once on the Supreme Court, if she does anything other than huddle close to Scalia/Thomas, if she goes squishy like O'Connor, she will do great harm both to Bush and the Republican Party.

I give her about two years on the court to get a handle on the
mechanics. Then she will realize the enormous power of her position. Within 5 years she will be using it to further her
social liberalism views on affirmative action, gay agenda, etc. If you like O'Connor, you will love Meirs.

That is my fear too. If she does an O'Connor, you can bet there will be a HUGE rift in the party. I mean, if we're going to have activist judges nominated no matter who is President...why bother voting Republican. Right? Stupid political move on the part of Bush/Rove.

Do we fight the in-fight NOW and hope to have her nomination recalled, or do we fight it AFTER she's on the bench and done irrepairable harm???
