I can think of no good reason for members of the Administration to talk to New York Times reporters. Even if they wanted to slime Wilson, which they clearly did, this wasn't the way to do it. It would have been easy enough to out Plame, assuming she really was an undercover agent, anonymously. I can't stand amateurish shenanigans of this kind.

Some people have said that Valerie Plame was a secretary at the CIA. She typed letters. That is quite different from being an agent. Does anyone really know exactly what she did at the CIA or even if she worked there?

She was outed anonymously as Valarie Plame, wife of Wilson, by Robert Novak. Novak said this without citing a source; "Wilson never worked for the CIA, but his wife, Valerie Plame, is an Agency operative on weapons of mass destruction." Assuming she was, I find it odd that your outrage would be directed at the 'amateurish' nature of the outing, rather than the illegal and unethical nature of it...
