FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. The 101st Airborne Division (search) on Thursday reactivated a historic unit whose actions during World War II and Vietnam were the subject of the book "Band of Brothers." (search) The 506th Regimental Combat Team also known as the "Currahees," a Cherokee Indian word meaning "stands alone" returned to the division just as its soldiers were completing final preparations to return to Iraq.

I thought Currahee meant "stand alone together"?
Henry C. Zimmerman is the WWII Veteran from Easy Company, that I met...he was even gracious enough to sign my DVD set.
I don't know if Easy has become Echo or not (there is an E company, I believe), but I do know that they are going to Iraq.
The loose lips sink ships rule applies here though, so I think that's all I can say.
Actually, the military advisor got a starring role in that series, he played the Colonel.
I thought Currahee meant "stand alone together"?
-------
That's the same as "Army of One"
506th Infantry Regiment (Air Assault)
"Currahee"
Currahee is the Regiment Motto and is the American aboriginal Cherokee Indian equivalent for "Stands Alone." The 506th was the sixth parachute regiment constituted in the U.S. Army.
Godspeed.
You're in our hearts and prayers..

Dale Dye? He graduated from my military school (Missouri Military Academy) in '64...(I graduated in '83)...

I "think" they are currently filming or getting the production going on the Pacific series as we speak...
Maybe they will do one on the new "Easy" Company that's headed to Iraq.
"Is Easy Company still part of this group? "
The answer is actually more complicated that that. (I'm doing this from memory, so some of the details are fuzzy)
During The First and Second World Wars and the Korean Conflict, US Army Regiments fought as three battalion units organized like this:
Regt. HQ
1st Battalion
HQ Co.
Co. A
Co. B
Co. C
2nd Battalion
HQ Co.
Co. D
Co. E
Co. F
3rd Battalion
HQ Co.
Co. G
Co. H
Co. I
During the late 1950's and early 1960's the Army underwent a number a reorganizations at all levels.
Regiments began to have more than 3 battalions, but the battalions were assigned to different brigades and divisions. The linage also changed so that each numbered battalion had the linage of one of the old companies
Co. A = 1st Battalion
Co. B = 2nd Battalion
Co. C = 3rd Battalion
Co. D = 4th Battalion
Co. E = 5th Battalion
Each of the newer battalions is organized as follows:
Battalion
HQ CO.
Co. A
Co. B
Co. C
So the direct lineal decendent of Co. E, 506th Parachute Infantry would be 5th Battalion, 506th Airborne Infantry.
Unless, in the reorganization that occured, they have gone back to the WWII era Regimental organization.
Correction, should be "5th Battalion, 506th Infantry (Air Assault)"
Great Info... Thanks a lot!
Funny thing was that in 1991, Syria fought on our side in the Persian Gulf War.
