NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Reuters) - A U.S. soldier opened fire on a group of fellow soldiers during a morning exercise session at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, on Thursday but no one was injured at the Army base.
The soldier, whose name was not released, "is in custody after firing shots at a physical training formation" but no one was wounded, Fort Campbell said in a statement.
It provided no other details but said the matter was under investigation.
The facility, on the Kentucky-Tennessee border about 60 miles northwest of Nashville, is home to the 101st Airborne Division that has served in Iraq.
Nope, Ft. Bragg. It was really a pretty sad case. The soldier in question was being harrassed by the unit. Went to the command and asked for help (psych type) and was told by his commander, "I don't have nuts in my unit, deal with it" so he did, he shot him during PT one morning.
Maybe before you go spouting BS and dishonoring a person who served honorably. You should find out the facts.
First the name of the ship is USS Forrestal CVA-59 (or its nickname The ForestFire)
2nd. Senator McCain had nothing to do with the start of the fire.
We may not like some of his current antics. But thats no reason to insult his former service.
The fire that happend on July 29 1967 Started as the AOs were connecting a rocket pod on a F-4 A 5 Zuni shot across the deck and into a 400 gallon belly fuel tank on a parked A-4D Skyhawk. Which just happend to have John McCain sitting in it.
John McCain escaped just prior to the first bomb explosion by climbing onto the fueling probe on the nose of his plane and dropping to the flaming deck.
Yet he stayed only to become a POW.
Like hundreds of others he was shot down by a missile. Does that make the others service dishonorable too.
As a POW laying all broken up near death denied medical treatment because he wouldnt give info to NV When the NV did find out who his dad was told him he could go home.
He refused. He was nursed back to health by the other POWs Anytime during his 6 year stay all he had to do was say get me the heck out of hear And the NV would have sent him home. He stayed tell the end.
Thats not dishonorable in my book. He Returned with Honor.
BTW I was an AO (Aviation Ordnance) in the Navy for ten years and had to watch the safety movies on the three fires two three times a year.
