the conservatives fired the first shots at Miers.

The "first shots" at Miers were posts here at FR (I read them) that pointed out she:

- used to be a Democrat

- gave money to Al Gore

- gave money to Sen Benson

Those posts (which were all true by the way) appeared within the first few minutes of her nomination. They are archived here on FR--I challenge you to read them.

It was only later that her credentials became an issue. I am sure Conservatives would have been fine with her if she went to Swinging State Law School if she had a better ideological record. But she didn't.

You are correct with both terms. The elitist charge was in response to her educational and non-judicial background.
The sexist charge was absolutely ridiculous, I concur.
