I don't think that it is just that white people like to read about white people doing horrible things. I think that the people who run the media think that it is racist to report on black or Latino crime as black or Latino crime. It is also interesting to note that in the case of Dylan Klebold of the Columbine shooting was portrayed as a Nazi and White Nationalist when he was in fact Jewish.

It helps if the white kids doing illegal stuff were also eagle scouts and active in their church choir. The fact of the matter is, the media and the media consumers are fatigued with black on black and latino on latino crime. It's kind of a "so what?" deal. They want to hear about so-called "good people" committing horrific crimes.
