I'm sure she's a lovely woman, brighter than average, and well-qualified for many important jobs. Just not the job Bush has nominated her for.

Starting to sound like Ann doesn't like the basic "little" person. Next she is going to start spouting that we are too dumb to choose our own leaders just like Walter Cronkite. I don't mind if she disagrees with the choice but her columns lately have made it clear that she thinks most of us "average" college alumns are subpar.

No, only that most of us are too dumb to actually be the leader. There's a big difference. And I'd agree: most of us are too dumb to be put in charge. Except me. I am your sovereign. Bow down and fear me.

She doesn't think the "average" college alum is subpar, she simply thinks that the average college alum with no experience in constitutional law shouldn't sit on the Supreme Court, and I whole-heartedly agree! The fact that she went to SMU Law School doesn't disqualify her by any means, and I think Coulter agrees with that. What it does mean is that, absent other spectacular achievements or experience (which Miers doesn't have), she is not qualified for the Court.

Dear TXBubba'

Ann is correct about college products not being what they should be. You can thank John Dewey for that.

After generations of dumbing down, how many college grads have fluency in a foreign language, let alone a grounding in latin? And how many grads have received a working education in the areas of grammar, logic, rhetoric ? ?

How many learned what earlier generations did about the Founding Documents, American history, economics, government?

And Social Science, Women's studies or Wymon's studies, Black History, Indian History, or any science course "for non-majors - all are equally dumbed down.

And the emphasis of intellectual excellence is hardly either unAmerican or somehow suspect. All managers always seek the brightest and the best.

Would you rather stand before a court with Roy Bean or Luke Knuckle Dragger's idiot sister the HillaBeast on the bench? Or, just maybe, would a Scalia or a Thomas be preferred by you. Come on, tell us. ;-)

As for MS Coulter's ascerbic wit, I am convinced most public figured need their ego trimmed, and she seems to do a very good job of trimming egos.

Even the Grelber in the Broom Hilda comic strip would envy some of her lines.

She's made it clear that the average law graduate is not good enough to be on the Supreme court.

I usually like Coulter ("How to Talk to a Liberal..."), but now I'm conflicted. Golly, would she also malign the likes of me for my hard-fought degree? Hey Ann, I worked full time and still graduated with honors in five years. And I didn't graduate from Harvard, that den of Marcuse-style communism now labelled multiculturalism. I did, however, attend a great football school--USC ( still #1 !).

Oh, and some of our most "eligible" Justices have some of the best schooling and judicial backgrounds and yet vote far-left virtually every time (Ginsberg, Bryer and Kennedy). Bryer was on TV the other day saying that the Constitution should be readily adapted with the time and social trends and that we should change the document to reflect more "acceptable" international laws. GAG! If Miers gets on the Court and can and will overcome these weirdos, it's a definite win in my book.
