FLINN SPRINGS – A tractor-trailer loaded with chocolate lost its brakes and hit a guardrail on Interstate 8 yesterday, closing an eastbound lane for several hours, authorities said.

The driver, 28, suffered minor injuries in the accident, which occurred near Flinn Springs Road about 11:15 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said. No other vehicles were involved.

The truck, which was headed to Otay Mesa from Pennsylvania, crossed from westbound to eastbound lanes, hit a freeway guardrail and came to rest in the center divider of the highway, CHP spokesman Brian Pennings said.

Traffic was backed up about three miles to Los Coches Road in Lakeside.

If the driver only had minor injuries, I assume most of the chocolate is ok.

I'm picturing the road covered with huge drifts of tiny chocolate chips or a tidal wave of Hershey's chocolate syrup flowing into the byways.

The truck was from PA so it could be Hershey's (junk) but could also be something better.

You crashed your peanut butter into my chocolate!
No, you crashed your chocolate into my peanut butter!

Could be worse, a few years ago up here a tanker truck full of industrial animal fat overturned on a major highway.
What a mess, they say the stench was nasty.
