That's why a Miers withdrawal ... and I'm beginning to think there's a chance it's going to happen because this stuff has now taken on a life of its own ... is not going to stop the furor here and elsewhere. Because if I'm wrong in what I'm about to say, I'll come back here and offer mea culpas and provide my address for folks who want to send me some crow. But IMHO, there is no way in this or any known solar system that the president is going to nominate Janice Brown or anyone like her to this seat, because as of Oct. 12, 2005 ... regardless of whether she was confirmed to the district seat, people keep trying to link the two and they are totally different and this is a totally separate set of circumstances ... I don't think Janice Brown or anyone like her will get through the Senate.

I said this yesterday and I'll repeat it until I'm blue in the face: We missed our chance, maybe our only chance, to do the constitutional option, because the president, who was stronger then than he is now, didn't twist enough arms and because Frist was a mound of jello as a leader.

Exactly.

The best-case scenario-right now-is a Miers withdrawal, followed up immediately by the nomination of an ideologically ambiguous-but slightly more palatable-nominee like Judge Edith Clement.
