Hey, it should be noted that the last time the DemoRats initiated a "high-tech" lynching they lost. We won, remember. It was a brutal, ugly, nasty, dirty, despicable process but we fought tooth and nail and won. We have a strong voice on the court because of our willingness to go to the mat with the DemoRats. The whole thing is odd. When Justice O'Connor(woman) resigns, nomination of Roberts(man), so sex wasn't the issue. Nominee Roberts move up and over with the death of Chief Justice Rehnquist and now Justice O'Connor's replacement, now replacement once removed, has to be a woman?

Roberts had to be put in play when O'Connor resigned so that he would be more visible and part way through the process when Rehnquist went down. There is balancing going on, but not simply one for one.
