I am kneejerk anti-feminist in many ways, though I think that many of the purer ideals of feminism are not so terrible...it is just that the messangers took over and corrupted the message.
As a mom of two girls (and a boy who would like to dismember the AG dolls) I didn't see anything in the girlsinc. info that bothered me enough to throw out the good stuff.
AG is not a perfect company by any means. But the books are historically based, talk about God, values and American history in a postive light. The girls have realistic bodies, not bimbo barbie measurements, and the clothing is demure, not barbie/bratz etc slutty.
I have no problem boycotting things I think are incidious and harmful...but after almost a decade of having those toys and books in our home, I am comfortable with the messages and the products.
My problem here is that American Girl's target audience is ages 9-13. That is just not an appropriate age level for much of what is on girlsinc. "Sexual Ettiquette"? information on coming out? Everything in their "resources" is pro-gay. I don't believe I saw anything I would classify as "pro-family". It's the same old feminist crap wrapped up in a new package as they try to sell it to a new generation.
Weren't the original feminists communists, back in the 60's?
FWIW, my daughter, who is now grown, had a couple American Girl dolls, back when she was a kid, and enjoyed them.
