I called - they are supporting girls inc....which after reading their website I think is just as bad as Planned Parenthood.
Take a look.
Beats me. When I get off work, I'll give them a call and try to find out.
Oh my. I'm speechless.
My daughters get the catalog on a regular basis. I will in the future trash it before they see it. We don't support anyone who supports murder. Amen.
Documentation, please.
who did you talk to? where does it show that support? do you have it in writing?
if not you are also a gossip and are guilty of calumny.

I just scanned the 2004 Annual Report for GirlsInc., and didn't see any donations from American Girl.
yeah I thing Clintongotthe goods and Kentucky esteemed fellow freepers are shorting Matel owners of American Girl.
If what they said is untrue and I was Matel I would find them and end their little gossip carrers.
good find

No, I am very sad to say that the link Kentuckian provided is valid and sickening. I am just now finishing off an email to the company and will send a written letter as soon as I get the name and address of their CEO/COO. www.girlsinc.org -- check out their "resources."
What's amazing is that AG's target audience begins at age 9. My 6 yo is too young to be part of their birthday club, etc. What 9 yo needs to know about "coming out" as a lesbian, HIV/STDs, "Sexuality 101".
This kind of reminds me of the time Warren Buffet bought out Pampered Chef. Whew, that uproar was a doozie.
hey choc,
you have to be a woman.
we KNOW the link is valid.
but the point (if your from Rio Lindo) is that the connection Kentucky made is unsubstantiated, get it? UNSUBSTANTIATED!!!!!
do you understand how gossip works and why it is wrong?
it is because people like yourself jump the gun.
we know girlsinc.org is BAD
we don not know for certain that American Girl is bad.

My 6 year old really wanted an American Girl doll. It was summer. I told her she could always ask for one for her birthday (November) or Christmas, or she could save up her own money.
Well, my daughter started doing extra chores for money. She would put her money in a plastic bag with a piece of paper that she would mark off when she got a dollar.
She went around the house finding loose change, and I let her keep it.
She kept at this for 3 months. At that time, she had all the money she needed for an American Girl doll.
The good thing about the whole experience is that my daughter really learned all about money. She knew 10 dimes, 100 pennies, 20 nickels, and 4 quarters made a dollar. Since then, she has always been ahead of her classmates in math.
In fact, I told her what an accountant is, and she wants to be one.
It was great for her because she has a severe speech problem, and it has been great to give her a career to strive for.
I am kneejerk anti-feminist in many ways, though I think that many of the purer ideals of feminism are not so terrible...it is just that the messangers took over and corrupted the message.
As a mom of two girls (and a boy who would like to dismember the AG dolls) I didn't see anything in the girlsinc. info that bothered me enough to throw out the good stuff.
AG is not a perfect company by any means. But the books are historically based, talk about God, values and American history in a postive light. The girls have realistic bodies, not bimbo barbie measurements, and the clothing is demure, not barbie/bratz etc slutty.
I have no problem boycotting things I think are incidious and harmful...but after almost a decade of having those toys and books in our home, I am comfortable with the messages and the products.
From what I found on this website, GirlsInc are encouraging the purchase of an American Girl wrist bad....not sure if this is one and the same American Girl as the doll company. GirlsInc are also pro-choice and they state that very clearly in their "about" pages. I guess we'll need to ask Matel directly if they are associated with this organization, but it's not looking good for them. Sad....so sad.
Welcome to the real world! And sorry. It just goes to show you can't just take things at face value anymore.
Dear Funky...
I was thinking along the same lines!!
Yeah my wife has it and she'll be back from shopping later.
Thanks for the request!
Has anyone confirmed this or is it just gossip?
