I am willing to trust that Bush has actually nominated a true conservative in Harriet Miers. I have watched (and participated) in all of the back and forth about whether she is or isn't conservative all week, and the only conclusion I can reach at this time is that we don't know.

What I do know is this, Bush knows her and supports her. I also know that Bush has said in so many words that conservatives will be pleased with Miers; I realize that in the past Bush has let us down, but he has never deliberately lied to us.

Miers is not going to withdraw, and Bush is not going to ask her to, so we need to support her. We need to support Bush and unify the base and hopefully increase the majority in the Senate next year. It is very possible that Bush will have the opportunity to appoint successors for Stevens and Ginsburg, and those appointments would be an absolute nightmare without a strong and unified base. We need to support our president and trust him.
