I'd just as soon see someone without a law background get on the court... I suppose you'd just as soon have your next surgery performed by someone without a medical background too. Good grief! And yes, before eveyone starts screaming that there is no constitutional or other requirement that a justice have a law degree, I already know that. Just because something is permissible doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Oh, good grief. That's a ridiculous comparison. One doesn't need a law degree to understand the US Constitution. In fact, I'd say more laypeople have a better understanding of what it means than do lawyers.
