It's awful funny that folks fall prostrate on the ground before Coulter normally, but when she doesn't toe the President's line, she's suddenly "underfed" and "crazy" and a "sunshine patriot." Just look at the comments on this thread already.

Too bad honest criticism is not welcome by some folks...

Just damn.

If you want on the list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...

This is the third time my beliefs and opinions differ than Ann's. Most of the time she's in sync with my opinions.

Because Ann is wrong here. Read the other comments and threads that take apart her arguments. This is nothing but high-pitched shrill coming from Ann, which is equivalent to the press releases NARAL and other left-wing groups spew when Bush nominates someone.

Amen to that, though Ann did get Roberts wrong.

This nomination has enhanced as well as exposed the rift that is taking place between various factions of the conservative "movement" (we don't really have a party) as well within the Republican party.

Too many people willing to back W without critical thinking, to many people telling one another to shut up and hold the line. When a pitbull like Ann C. is questioned for being fair weathered I have to think that the world has turned upside down.

I really don't think all that much of Coulter. Her primary goal is to generate controversy - a lot of heat but not much light. I get tired of folks bashing Miers because she doesn't have a wonderous academic pedigree. How many liberals have wonderous academic pedigrees, and how much grief has that caused conservatives?

Just to clarify, I'm pretty sure the "sunshine patriot" comment (post #7) was sarcasm for the purpose of making the same point you made - criticism of the president isn't very welcome here, from the left or right.

Annie has drawn the line in the sand. She has forced people to pick sides in the conservative body, and people are starting to see Coulter for what she is... a big mouth.

It's always the same thing with her - beating up Republicans because they don't follow her dictation.

1. She lost some credibility when she trashed Roberts.

2. Calling someone "Bush's legal secretary" is a cheap shot.

3. I realize Ann has a degree from Cornell. I don't necessarily consider that a recommendation. Those of us out here in the Midwest are not that enthralled with the Ivy League schools and their product.

And as an aside, it seems to me that when one is supposed to be a supporter of the Republicans (in general), one should tailor one's criticism to the target. While Miers may not be the best qualified, it is simply ridiculous to act like she is some sort of coffee lady who takes dictation. She is a self-made corporate attorney who rose to the head of a large law firm. That is an accomplishment. For Ann to denigrate this woman in this manner makes Ann look petty.

I know, this unempolyed springmaker doesn't know anything about Miers. I just know I wish President Bush would have picked Judge Brown.

I want to have a fight, and screw the Rats and RINOS!!!!!!!!

How do you explain Ann's bashing of Roberts just a few weeks ago.

Her thinking is not consistent or rational at all times.

mhking, you're right on. So many people are bashing Ann all of a sudden because she is not just bashing libs. Bush made a horrible mistake and needs to be called on the carpet by conservatives.

It may be too late with Meirs but perhaps if we get another chance, the President will actually listen to conservatives if we just don't roll over and support his weak nominees. This nomination is so important it was foolish to take a stab at it, and hope she is an conservative and originalist. However, we have no track record with her and have to take the whole thing on blind faith. It's not like the President has always made great personnel picks -- ala Mineta, Powell, Kuerig, Paul O'Neil, to name a few. Further, we're still haunted by previous faith-based Republican Supreme picks Stevens, Souter, Kennedy, so it's not like we have a great history here. We actually don't even know for certain yet if Roberts will be fantastic, because of the lack of paper trail.

Ann said - "Totally unqualified",

She doesn't know that. The fact that Miers hasn't been a judge doesn't mean she's totally unqualified. We don't know that, and that's the reason I'm not entirely happy, but I think I should give GW the benefit of the doubt. After all, Justice Rehnquist had no experience as a judge and worked as an Arizona lawyer before becoming a Supreme Court judge.

William Rehnquist was the most unlikely of appointments to the U.S. Supreme Court. He had no experience as a judge, and his boss, former President Richard Nixon, would embarrassingly refer to him as "Renchburg." But after serving more than 33 years on the Supreme Court, the last 19 as chief justice, Rehnquist proved to be among the greatest justices ever. He set the judicial standard at a very high level. Rehnquist took his seat on the Supreme Court on Jan. 7, 1972. A mere two months later, he brazenly disagreed with all the other justices and issued his first lone dissent.

He went on to establish his reputation for dissenting alone, earning him the nickname "the Lone Ranger." Rehnquist was never one to seek accolades from the media or his colleagues, and penned more than 410 dissenting opinions over his marvelous career. LINK.
