Perhaps, but this is GW's last good chance to get a conservative judge on the court. It is also his last good chance to do something good for the country and get his last jab at the libs.
It's pretty obvious he is burned-out.
First of all, I think Miers is a good conservative pick. I support her nomination and confirmation.
Secondly, Ruth Bader Ginsberg is not (my opinion) going to last the next three years. She may not be the only one. How old are Kennedy and Souter?
No, it isn't. I think Stevens will be retiring before his term is out.
Besides, I think she's plenty conservative. I keep hearing that she isn't qualified. Those who make those comments don't happen to be strict constructionists because if they were, they would know that our constitution was not written to be "interpreted" by "experts". It was written to be understood by the common man. The legal elitiests seem to require some kind of track record. So, how's this for a track record. You know all those judges everyone has been saying they wish had been nominated? Guess who found them, vetted them, and recommended them for Dubya to nominate?
I dunno..Ginsberg is looking kind of sickly...maybe 3 picks? Or was she always looking sick?
LOL! "Last chance?" The calendar says October 2005, giving the president more than 3 FULL YEARS left in his 2nd term. And given that Scalia is approaching 70, Stevens is past 80, etc, I would wager that there is at least 1, maybe 2 more SCOTUS openings before January 20, 2009.
I'll just sit back and watch all the so-called conservatives who are outraged at the Miers pick make fools out of themselves. Miers is a tough as nails, no nonsense Texas woman. Heck, Dubya might as well have put the Silver Fox on the court today.
I feel Bush will have at least one Supreme Court nominee, Justice Stevens is 85 or older and he can't last too much longer on the court. SO the odds are that Bush will get one more in the next 2 to 3 years.
Do you realize the ages of some of those justices?
Bush may well get a third pick to the court before his term ends, IMO.
You said...this is GW's last good chance to get a conservative judge on the court.

I believe that Pres. Bush will appoint one or two MORE S. Ct. justices. I am hoping he will replace Stevens and Ginsburg. They are not swing votes, and I would like to see Brown or Owen in those slots.
I like the appointments Bush has made to the courts thus far. I will trust him on this until he proves me wrong.
