You can not get into a Sooner game without having a purse or backpack searched. Mind you, it is not a very thourough search, but it is a search. Also, there is a limit to how big of a bag or backpack you can carry in. It really makes sneaking a flask in tricky! And maybe that's why he made an explosive vest rather than a backpack.

It's good that certain crowded venues have bag checks, but a bomber can do as much damage standing in the line with those waiting to be searched, or when an event ends and the crowds flow out.
--Not as spectacular as disrupting the game, but equally deadly nonetheless.
