so, her job at the WH was to help vet SCOTUS candidates? this sounds a lot like the way cheney got tapped for the VEEP. although I was a lot more comfortable with cheney.

Looks like Miers was picked to avoid a fight with the Dems.
To: Para-Ord.45
it was a powerful Democrat, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, who had urged her selection. If he's for 'er, I'm agin 'er!
Opps - now I'm both for and agin 'er...?

For SCOTUS, conservatives ordered steak, and President Bush gave us the bone.

Orrin Hatch on Fox News confirmed that Harry Reid suggested her to the President. I voted for Bush so that Harry Reid could nominate the SCOTUS? And there are people who say voting for third parties is a wasted vote.

True colors we now see.
Bush,no fiscal conservative.(apart from taking the fight to the terrorists)
And now?
No friend of the Constitution either.
We`ve been sold out.

Byrd liked Roberts.
Reid likes Meir.
I am worried.
I am also curious about the fact that Ms Meir is 60 years of age. I thought that the administration had decided that their Supreme Court appointees would be around 50. Something don't smell right. Kinda fishy smell. Red Herring?

I see that Newsmax doesn't even the guts to put a "by line" in anymore.
Just promote pure speculation ala the NYT/wash post.

"Most recently, Harriet Miers served as Assistant to the President and Staff Secretary. Prior to that, she was Co-Managing Partner at Locke Liddell & Sapp, LLP. Previously, she was President of Locke, Purnell, Rain & Harrell, where she worked from 1972 until 1999. From 1995 until 2000, she was chair of the Texas Lottery Commission. In 1992, Harriet became the first woman president of the Texas State Bar, and in 1985 she became the first woman president of the Dallas Bar Association. She also served as a Member-At-Large on the Dallas City Council. Harriet received both her undergraduate and law degrees from Southern Methodist University."
If she has had any affiliations with the ACLU or any other subversive organizations - dig it out now!

Wow! Look at the one issue people on this thread...this nominee says she
respects the United States Constitution, she believes in it; calls it brilliant. The more I learn about her, Harriett, the more I like what I am learning. Those of you who wanted a conservative, had better read this woman's briefs, she fits like a glove with the exception, and it is a good one, she abides by the law and is especially good when it concerns women AND she will not legislate from the bench.
President Bush is NOT running for POTUS but many good Republicans will be so if you want the nation to lean towards conservatism and remain secure from terrorists, vote these good people into office. Nailing the left on every issue is not the answer; if the fight is off, so be it.
Borders should be your real concern now AZ is about to put up a CA style fence. Dont complain if you are not willing to go to work getting laws changed - It is the Congress that you must complain to and your state legislature. Heaping all ills on this President merely shows the nescient approach many take about government. It would be interesting to know how many on this thread did nothing to stop Ruth Badder Ginsberg
.

If Reid supports her, she must be an originalist. I'm sure sure some Bush lap dog will make the point. Or maybe Jay Sekulow and ACLJ will.
To: Para-Ord.45
While I have zero respect for Reid's joy over Miers, perhaps Bush is being smart like a fox. Time will tell. Perhaps Miers has undergone a deep political conversion, similar to W's spiritual conversion, and has stayed under the radar of people such as Reid because her transformed ideology -- transformed since she supported Gore in '88 -- isn't visible to Harry, while her convictions are obvious to Bush.
I hope this is the case.
Sounds like Reid, the odd-man-out probably since he was a kid on the playground, is so desperately in need of affirmation that having a woman be nice to him, treating him with the courtesy all human beings need, finds THAT the important qualification for the USSC.
