Haven't read through the rest of this thread so it may have already been addressed; just wondering if Bush is saving his fire for a third vacancy on the Supreme Court where he can appoint someone conservatives would really drool over. Let's see: Scalia, Thomas, Breyer, Kennedy, and Souter are healthy and show every indication of lasting another decade or more. That leaves Stevens and Ginsburg. Neither Stevens nor Ginsburg is likely to retire knowing that Bush would get to select their replacement. I just don't see that happening.

Stevens is a well-preserved corpse.
If he runs the table-and serves for the remaining three years of President Bush's term-I'll eat my hat.
But first I'll have to purchase a hat.

Yes, it was Stevens and Ginsburg I was wondering about and you are probably right that neither would retire knowing that Bush would get to pick their replacement!
