On a conference call held by the Federalist Society this morning, former RNC Chairman Ed Gillespie admitted sheepishly that Miers was a Democrat througout the 1980s; asked specifically about the Gore contribution, Gillespie said that she was a 'conservative' democrat who later became a republican...
So Miers was a conservative Democrat who later became a Republican.
So was Reagan. This really means nothing - you can argue either way.
The Dems controlled Texas until recently. If you wanted a prominent position in power, you tended to be a Dem.
She hasn't donated to Dems that I can see since 1988. So what's the big friggin' deal here?
You can count me as one of the above. Actually, I was pretty liberal. Having been on "the other side", I feel especially able to deconstruct their arguments and reasoning. Memories of my idiot Democrat days make me a staunch conservative, probably more so than most "all my life" conservatives that I know (not freepers though, I mean In Real Life).
Another thing, I only fairly recently became "pro-life", but way before that, I thought that Roe V Wade was terrible law and would have thrown it out in a heartbeat..
I'll actually argue one way:
If one is brought up a Republican, one learns the Dems' faults.
If one is brought up a Democrat, one experiences the Dems' faults and may very well mature and see the light.
The second is definitely no slouch!
Allessandro, get on the trolley bus and stop agitating.
Excellent post, dirtboy. The **deal** is that the typical Bush bashers on this site can bash with new fervor due to their ignorance.
