Rudy is a great man, but he is not conservative enough on many crucial issues.

Perhaps he could be George Allen's running mate.

Giuliani: I'm Considering 2008 Bid

I suggest he try something more productive with his time. Like taking a gourmet cooking class.

I agree, Allen/Giuliani would be a strong ticket.

I personally like Rudy, but I have a lot of trouble with some of his issue stances. He has a lot to prove to me if he wants my support.

By coincidence, things are falling into place to Giuliani's advantage.

Three things the country will demand in 2008 are competence, an anti corruption prosecutor type and someone they trust to fight the war to a winning conclusion.

If Republicans believe social issues will be at the fore in 2008, they are political suicidal.

Well, if Giuliani is to be the GOP candidate, even if he is perfect on economic and foreign policy issues, he has to assure the GOP base on social issues. In other words, he would need to pick a Sam Brownback as his running mate.

Rudi is doing a serious disservice to the party. His proper role is defeating Hillary's Senate re-election run, not running for president. It is, in 2008, far more important that she not be elected than it is any single Republican be elected.

Agreed. If Reps think social issues are going to win in 2008, they are wrong. It will be keeping America safe, and a powerhouse leader will be the only one who can beat the dims.

Hannity/Coulter 2008. Brains AND looks. Unbeatable team. Name recognition. Tremendous energy. Many people of all ideologies are comfortable speaking with Hannity. Both have strong debating skills. First female VEEP. Great on issues. Already fairly well vetted I'd imagine.

Rudy is too soft on tough issues.

Sam Brownback as his running mate.

Works for me. Perfect.

As a pro-choice Republican, Giuliani would not survive the primaries.

He'd e good as a VP but NOT President - he's a rabid social LIBERAL. We really can't afford any more liberalizing of our morality. We need a crack down on that.

All due respect, Sab:

Competetence, anti-corruption (just wait till New Orleans shakes out further) and trust to fight the war to a winning conclusion...ARE social issues, in my opinion, in that our quality of life derives very much from how powerfully those three areas are dealth with.

My opinion. I also believe, for the conservatives who say they won't support Rudy because he's not conservative enough on some issues, that we will see two dynamics advance in the coming months:

1. Rudy will modify stances on abortion, guns and gay marriage, moving rightward (not far enough for a lot of people here, myself included, but rightward just the same).

2. The conservatives who say he hasn't moved rightward enough will mostly support him just the same, as they will see that the alternative is: Hilary.

Right. He backed out of his last senate race very abruptly and offers no good reason for not trying again now. He stands less of a chance in 2008 than Arnold Schwartenegger, who at least has guvenatorial experience. Enough with the mayors and senators, for goodness sake. If it's anyone from congress, it ought to be a Representative: Tancredo. But I'd prefer Hannity.

The days of switch-hitting on issues, I think, are over. The New Media makes that very, very difficult. Don't forget the flipflop campaign against Kerry.
