It certainly doesn't. As I said earlier on this thread, the planning that goes into making a bomb doesn't jibe with someone who's depressed. It does jibe with someone who's angry and has a plan.
If the depressed angle is true, I postulate that he was depressed quite a long time before this event, at a time when his depression made him a perfect target for Islamist handlers looking for someone vulnerable they could recruit, convert, and program to do their dirty work for them.
Remember that an American convert appeared in the last videotape warning. Does anyone think that was just an accident or a novel idea? To me, it was a glaring statement from the folks at AQ that attacks would now come from such American recruits. It might also have been a message to said recruits that their time had come to be the front line.
