We once had a student at the HS where I taught show up with a pipe bomb in his pickup. (Yes, he got in big trouble with the law). Anyway, alot of kids thought he intended to blow up the school (I don't suppose a pipe bomb would do that, but I don't know alot about explosive devices). But, kids who knew him said he probably really did just forget it was there (as he said) because he used to make bombs to blow up things like tree stumps in the pasture near his house.
Maybe something country boys do.

Although inherently dangerous, (most were made with black powder, as I understand), no one was killed.
This, however, did not have the large amount of smoke that would normally be associated with black powder, and by all accounts was significantly more powerful. Not your normal country boy device in that sense.
