Nine letters with white powder sent to European Parliament
The Associated Press, Oct. 18, 2005
Nine letters with an unidentified white powder addressed to the European Parliament have been intercepted by the assembly's security department over the past two days, an official said Tuesday.
The letters, four on Monday and five on Tuesday, were intercepted by a machine which scans all parliament mail. They were handed over to Belgian police for analysis, said parliament spokeswoman Marjory van den Broeke.
"It's most likely a prank, we've received letters like that before and it has always been false alarm," she said.
