I'm wondering why they would attack on a Sunday ... when the subways aren't as full as the work week.

The following was posted by FReeper 'nj26' on the thread titled - BREAKING ON FNC: NYC terror plot planned for October 9th attack.

"On many subway lines (and the PATH subways from NY to NJ come to mind, in particular), services in infrequent (every 10 or 15 minutes) on Sunday, and the car are actually fully occupied, even if overall passenger volume is lighter on that day.

As London demonstrated, all they need is a packed subway car in a deep tunnel."

Good point. Every train I ever took on a Sunday from NJ to NYC was always fully loaded.

Chicago trains are packed on weekends too.
Standing room only, especially on a big parade weekend.
