Anyone hear of an evac in Philly? Heard a blurb on FOX as I walked out the door (I leave the TV on for Clyde - he's a news junkie too LOL).

Just heard on FOX that parts of Penn Station in NY are closed/evacuated. Suspicious package at one of the ticket counters.

SEPTA Station Evacuated And Rail Service Disrupted (Philadelphia - 10/7/05)

(CBS 3) PHILADELPHIA SEPTA’s Market East Station was evacuated and service was temporarily suspended Thursday morning while Philadelphia police investigated a suspicious package.

SEPTA and Philadelphia police evacuated the Market East Station around 7:30am after a conductor spotted a man acting suspiciously. The Market East Station was closed and no regional rail lines were running into or out of the station while police investigated the incident.

Police say a man was dressed in camouflage and was carrying a suspicious package. The man was taken into custody was questioned.

According to SEPTA spokesman Felipe Fuarez, "The individual was carrying some sort of bag with him and a scent was picked up by one of our dogs."

While police questioned the man, the Philadelphia Bomb Squad was called in to examine the contents of the package. Around 9 a.m. the bomb squad rendered the scene safe and commuters were allowed back into the station.

The travel disruptions came on the heels of the Thursday night announcement made by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg saying officials there have stepped up mass transit security after receiving a threat that the subway may be the target of a bombing in the coming days.

Homeland Security officials in Washington are downplaying the threat's credibility.
