The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Home grown Islamists may hit US: FBI chief
Full Story

WASHINGTON -- The United States could be attacked by "home grown" Islamist terror groups, the FBI's chief has warned.

FBI Director Robert Mueller told the London Financial Times newspaper in an interview published Thursday that the United States could face attacks from "home-grown terrorism" very similar to the July 7 bombings in London that killed 52 people and wounded another 700, Mueller said.

When asked if the United States could face such attacks from "home-grown groups", Mueller answered emphatically: "Absolutely, it could," the Financial Times said.

Reports that one of the bombs was in a cement truck.

Something to watch out for here, IMO.

Iraqi native sentenced to nearly five years in weapons case

An Iraqi-born man arrested while trying to buy machine guns and hand grenades from undercover agents was sentenced Monday to nearly five years in prison.

Ahmed Hassan Al-Uqaily, 34, was arrested last October during a sting operation prompted by the man's alleged threat about "going jihad" against the United States, investigators said.

The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force said Al-Uqaily paid $1,000 for two disassembled machine guns, four disassembled hand grenades and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

Al-Uqaily pleaded guilty in May before U.S. District Court Judge Robert Echols to illegal possession of weapons and possession of unregistered firearms.

Under a plea agreement reached earlier this year, Al-Uqaily was sentenced to 57 months in prison and three years supervised release. He can be deported to Iraq after he serves the prison time.

"The court believes this sentence is fair and reasonable under the circumstances," Echols said.

Defense attorney David Baker declined to comment.

Kentucky lands grant to protect bingo halls from terrorists

Kentucky has been awarded a federal Homeland Security grant aimed at keeping terrorists from using charitable gaming to raise money.

The state Office of Charitable Gaming won the $36,300 grant and will use it to provide five investigators with laptop computers and access to a commercially operated law-enforcement data base, said John Holiday, enforcement director at the Office of Charitable Gaming.

The idea is to keep terrorists from playing bingo or running a charitable game to raise large amounts of cash, Holiday said.

But to some, the idea of protecting bingo halls from terrorists is nonsensical.

"It's almost ludicrous," said Rick Bentley, a Henry Clay High School sports booster as he volunteered last Thursday at a noisy, smoke-filled Lexington bingo parlor. "The thought would never even enter my mind."

Holiday, who applied for the grant, said that terrorists do not currently profit from charitable gaming in Kentucky to the best of his knowledge.

"But the potential there, to me, is just huge," he said. "You can earn a lot of money very fast and deal entirely in cash."

With more than 1,300 organizations licensed to raise money through gambling, charitable gaming raised $51 million in 2003.

Holiday said if the grant stretches far enough, he also wants to offer forensics accounting training to his 10 auditors.

Gitmo Gulag? Serious bad guys at Guantanamo would love to kill you. Have a nice day.

The Free Lance Star ^
Guantanamo Bay, Cuba 10/23/2005

It is important to keep in mind that these men, while exceedingly dangerous and even pathological in their desire to kill Westerners, are generally well-educated and broadly traveled.

Several detainees have advanced degrees in law, engineering, and medicine from American and European schools like the University of London.

Others are highly skilled technical experts with advanced training and knowledge of electronics and demolitions. (Some of these are contributing to our knowledge of al-Qaida bombs found in Iraq.) Many of these men occupied the top al-Qaida echelons, and met frequently with bin Laden.

A lot of these men came from middle-class or wealthy families.

They come from 17 different countries, but a great many are Saudi Arabian.

They are not driven by poverty, unemployment, or class deprivation. They are motivated by a virulent form of Islam that promotes jihad and death to Western civilization.

They will kill Americans--including women and children--without conscience, for they are convinced that restoration of the Islamic caliphate is their sole mission on this Earth.

Many readers will have heard stories about detainees sleeping in air-conditioned berths, while the American troops guarding them sweated in tents.

You may have heard that American soldiers were eating MREs while the terrorists dined on three "hots" daily, providing about 2,600 calories of carefully varied food.

Those stories were correct.

From the article:

Right now, Europe is in the process of moving away from multiculturalism in an attempt to create a new set of immigration laws.

In fact, immigration reform has been the number one issue in all recent European elections. Even hardened leftist liberals in Europe have admitted publicly that multiculturalism has failed because they neglected to consider the consequences of people with vastly differing ideologies living side by side.

This has resulted in a new effort in Europe to require immigrants to speak the native language and become more integrated into Western society.

Tony Blair recently said that immigrants will not be granted British citizenship unless they speak English and are able to find work.

Many other European countries are following his lead.

Stuck on Stupid is about right.

Take a look at the article I just posted about Iran's operations in the Gulf of Mexico. For some reason, it seems to be only making news in the business news arena - no one seems to recognize the connection to terror.

Truth is stranger than fiction.

Iran bringing “many divers, sophisticated technology” to Gulf of Mexico
by Laura Mansfield

Earlier this year, a top Iranian General made the following boast: “Iran is the biggest military power in the region (with) 10 million volunteers for martyrdom operations ... to turn Iran into a terrible nightmare for the United States,” General Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, deputy commander of Iran’s hardline Revolutionary Guards, told the Kayhan newspaper.

This summer, the BBC reported an ad in an Iranian publication has calling for volunteers for "martyrdom operations" against the enemies of Islam. The ad was published by an institute managed by one of Iran's most conservative and radical clerics, Ayatollah Masbah Yazdi, who has declared his support for Iran's new President, Mahmoud Ahmedinejad. It recruits men and women to enlist with the "Martyrdom Lovers' Headquarters".

So I find it more than a little ironic that the same country that is actively recruiting volunteers to conduct suicide missions against United States and US interests, and is opening bragging about it, has now been granted a base of operations in the Gulf of Mexico, within easy striking distance of America’s Gulf Coast.

The Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company is expected to begin shortly a major $90 million dollar project laying pipeline in the Gulf of Mexico. The company says it will be laying 36-inch pipes 60-70 meters under water.

The company expects to be handing the rest of the $400 million dollar project as well.

According to a press release on IRNA, “The Gulf of Mexico project will help the Iranian company gain valuable experiences given the large presence of European and American companies in the area.”

The press release also states that the “project will need many divers and sophisticated technology.”

Is anyone in our government paying attention here?

A country which has made one threat after another against the US for over two and a half decades, is now being provided in essence a base of operations in the Gulf of Mexico, within striking distance of much of the US oil supply.

They will have carte blanche to bring in divers, submersibles, and highly sophisticated technical equipment. Since they will be in essence subcontractors for the Mexican oil industry, they will most likely be able to circumvent export controls for many types of hardware and software that would not normally be eligible for export to Iran.

Hello? Is anyone listening?

Here's another excerpt:

This last danger sign is probably the most important since it describes what we believe to be the main goal of militant Islam.

They want Islam to become the dominant religion and government worldwide.

Our goal is to attack that main problem I stated above, which is to do something about the fact that so many Americans don’t know anything about Islam. We created this list to get past the politically correct barriers and educate both Muslims and non-Muslims.

We also created this list to show we respect statements from groups like CAIR who are telling us that Islam is a religion of peace.

This is a wake-up call for our country.

We will never be able to act in unison to prevent militant Islam from gaining a foothold here unless we all can agree that there is a real problem.

In a nutshell you could say that the real problem is that not enough people realize that there is a problem.

We are getting zero help from the big media outlets, which should be filled with news from Europe about their recent immigration reforms and the struggle they are having with militant Islam.

Instead, they are focused on doing anything they can to hurt our president and his administration.
