Amazing season... 3 cat 5s (record), 21 named storms (ties record), deepest in history.

Fortunately Wilma will weaken a good bit before hitting land. She's also in an environment of lower than normal pressure, so she isn't quite the strongest ever... just the lowest pressure.

Yep. There are faults everywhere. A few years back in Manassas, VA there was a 4.4. Lots of folks called 911 to report some type of explosion. They had fire trucks out looking for damage until they figured it out.

Small quakes are good. They release energy preventing a larger quake. It's the faults that only move every 1,000 years or so that cause the most trouble. When those move, they REALLY move.

IIRC, there's a sizable fault running right under NYC.

Update on the NJ sniper:

2 sniper suspects taken; cops swarm building

A Conrail worker was shot in the back by a BB gun-wielding rooftop sniper yesterday in an incident that shut down a Hudson-Bergen Light Rail station in Jersey City and all three Bayonne stations, officials said.

The victim was working near the intersection of Princeton and Linden avenues, where Conrail train tracks run parallel to the light rail line, officials said. He was not seriously injured, police said.

Police arrested Rosa Deldalle, 33, and Andy Laroche, 23, both of Princeton Avenue, and charged them with aggravated assault and weapons offenses, Police Sgt. Edgar Martinez said. Inside the apartment they share police found a BB pistol and a BB rifle, Martinez said.

Thanks for the update Velveeta.

>> A Conrail worker was shot in the back by a BB gun-wielding rooftop sniper <<

The MSM never ceases to amaze and disgust me. Sniper w/ a BB gun. LOL!!! When I was a kid, we played 'War' with BB guns. You always knew when you were hit.

The way the MSM portrayed this, you'd think the guy had a .50 cal or something similar. Just more anti-gun bias BS from the liberal MSM.

Russian trawler holding Norwegian inspectors
reached Russian waters
AFP ^ | Oct. 19

Posted on 10/19/2005 9:22:06 AM PDT by george76

A Russian trawler which took flight with two Norwegian inspectors on
board after refusing to obey orders to halt, crossed into Russian
waters and was on its way to the northern port of Murmansk, Russian
fleet officials said.

The trawler Electron, accompanied by the Russian anti-submarine
frigate Admiral Levchenko which joined it at midnight, "crossed into
Russian territorial waters and are going to Murmansk along the
border," the Russian navy spokesman Igor Dygalo said as quoted by
the ITAR-TASS news agency.

On the other side of the border, they are trailed by the Norwegian
ships in constant communication with the Admiral Levchenko," Dygalo
said, adding assurances that "the situation is under control and is not
conflictual."

The Electron took off with two Norwegian inspectors, who had stopped
the vessel to investigate it for illegal fishing in the Barents Sea, on
Saturday, and had been fleeing the Norwegian coast guard since then.

"Local news was reporting this morning that the informant had given the FBI several names, one of whom is sleeping with the informant's girlfriend. Revenge may be a motive."

Oh brother, now we have to deal with idiot terrorists who are suffering from the green monster! If that's all it was he needs to be put to work post haste to pay off a very large bill for all the time spent on this supposed threat.

Uniform Subversion (view from Pakistan)
Outlook India com ^ | October 19, 2005 | Amir Mir

Posted on 10/19/2005 2:30:21 PM PDT by Hunden

The silent tug of war between Islamists and Reformists in the Pakistan
army reaches a boiling point as a hapless Musharraf's enlightened
moderation yields way to extreme measures.

The notion that all is not well in the Pakistan Army has been reinforced
with the unprecedented execution on August 20, 2005, of Abdul Islam
Siddiqui, a member of the armed forces, on charges of plotting to
assassinate President General Pervez Musharraf in collaboration with
the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM)

PRAIRIE VIEW A&M BOMBER ARRESTED? LONESTARTIMES.COM LAUNCHES OPEN-SOURCE JOURNALISM INVESTIGATION
http://lonestartimes.com/?p=1770

(snip)
Public records research by LST strongly indicates that Okwukili Aluka is closely related to a Prairie View A&M employee.

Both a law enforcement official close to the investigation and a representative of Prairie View A&M told LST they were informed the individual arrested was the employee’s son; the editor of the campus student newspaper tells LST that the person arrested was the employee’s brother.

Public records indicate a roughly 21 year age gap between the person arrested and the university employee.

When contacted by LST this afternoon and presented with our findings, the employee in question refused to confirm, deny, or clarify the relationship, and declined our invitation to make an official comment in response to the Chronicle’s story.

Although rumors regarding the arrested individual’s particular religious faith are rampent, LST has not been able to come to a firm conclusion on the matter at this time.
