Yes, I was watching the online news regarding the shootings in China and Russia at/around the elementary schools in the wee hours this morning.
My heart goes out to the parents and children.
I am praying for the families, the children, the teachers and the missionaries.
I am praying for the police officers and emergency response teams attempting to deal with the terrorists.
In Jesus' name.
Amen.
Thanks Cindy. Glad it was nothing.
The bomb scares (note left behind, etc.) and warnings don't really worry me too much. The next AQ attack, like all their past attacks, will have NO warning.
I understand.

New Stadium Security Policies Announced
The Big 12 football conference is tightening security measures around its stadiums. Now I can't help but notice that these new security measures closely follow the suicide of Joel Hinrichs by explosion outside the football stadium in Oklahoma.
I have been following that case in all its strange permutations: he apparently had jihad material, bomb-making material, and a Muslim roommate. He had a beard like one a convert to Islam would have. But his father says he was not a Muslim and the local MSA says they don't know him, and no conclusive proof has been found indicating that he was indeed a Muslim. His death has been universally portrayed by officials and the mainstream media as an individual suicide, albeit in a rather bizarre fashion. I can't recall ever before hearing of anyone committing suicide by blowing himself up except for Muslims who intended to take as many others with them as possible.
But if he was just a lone nut with a random target, and the local Muslims saw nothing and know nothing, why tighten security at the stadiums? Or do authorities suspect that a plot may be afoot akin to efforts last year to launch jihad at a British soccer stadium?
"New Stadium Security Policies Announced: Texas Tech Athletics has announced new security measures for Jones SBC Stadium that will go into effect immediately," from the Texas Tech Athletics page, with thanks to Bob:
Texas Tech and the Big 12 Conference are increasing stadium security around the league due to concerns over recent events and the conference policy of making each stadium as safe and secure as possible. The following changes will be made beginning with the Kansas State game this weekend.
Effectively immediately, the screening of individuals and their possessions when entering Jones SBC Stadium will be more stringent than in past games.
BAGS, BACKPACKS and/or similar items will not be allowed inside the Stadium.

Bush Slams Syria for Interference in Iraq, Lebanon
By Gerry J. Gilmore
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Oct. 12, 2005 President Bush today accused the Syrian government of looking the other way as suicide-bent insurgents flow across its border into Iraq to commit mayhem.
"We expect Syria to do everything in her power to shut down the transshipment of suiciders and killers into Iraq. We expect Syria to be a good neighbor to Iraq," Bush said during a White House press conference that included outgoing Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski. Poland has sent troops to support coalition efforts in Iraq.
Syria, which has a one-party Baathist government, also appears to be guilty of continued meddling in Lebanon, Bush said. This circumstance, he said, runs contrary to the opinion of responsible nations in the free world.
"It's very important for Syria to understand that the free world respects Lebanese democracy and expects Syria to honor that democracy," Bush said.
Bowing to international pressure, the Syrians recently removed their troops and intelligence services from Lebanese territory. However, an ongoing U.N. investigation, the Mehlis Report, points to possible Syrian involvement in the assassination of former Lebanese Premier Rafik Hariri.
Bush declined to comment on possible implications for Syria if it had anything to do with Hariri's death, citing the need to wait for the Mehlis Report's conclusions. Meanwhile, the world "expects Syria to honor the democracy in the country of Lebanon," he said.
Free nations also "expect Syria not to agitate killers in the Palestinian territories," Bush said, noting there's been "good progress toward peace in the Holy Land."
Yet, Bush reiterated his concern that "foreign countries, such as Syria, might try to disrupt the peace process through encouraging terrorist activities."
Meanwhile, the United States continues to work with friends and allies to send a clear message to the Syrian government that "there are expectations involved for countries that want to be accepted in the international community," Bush said.
Interesting I saw no "cause" of derailment anywhere in that article.

Hi jer33 3. A radio report earlier today stressed that parents were absolutely petrified with concern about their schoolchildren in that region. Understandable and hopefully (praying), the children are safe.

"Cheryl LaBash: Detroit City Council invites Venezuela to discuss energy aid"
SNIPPET: "Cheryl LaBash writes: With winters chill edging into Michigan, Detroit City Council members have sent a letter inviting the Consul General of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to meet with them and the community at large "to discuss more fully President Chavez proposal and possible ways of implementing it" in this city. All eight current Council members signed the September 19 letter.
President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, when visiting the United States during the opening of the United Nations General Assembly, offered to help poor communities get oil and gas cheap during this period of high world oil prices. Venezuela is the largest oil producer in the Western Hemisphere."

I'm outright jealous. Never been to a Disney park - and I'm getting downright old (I did ride one roller coaster this summer against my better judgment, however). Have lots of fun, be vigilant and safe and let us know what signs of security you see there.
I used to live about 10 miles north of this area and my very best friend lives much closer to Amsterdam.
Spoke to her this morning and she didn't really know anymore than what has been reported. The cause is just said to be "under investigation". The area it happened in, as I recall, was kind of a warehouse small factory type area. Fownes Leathers had their warehouse there, which is the only way I know, they had super bargains on all the name brand leather goods they produced!
She's under orders to call me if she hears anything! I'll let you all know if she does.
And, that standoff and supposed suicide over by UCSD last weekend, hasn't been a peep about it in the news. That North County Times article is the only one in the area that I have seen any information in. I find this odd. There is always the possibility that I could have missed it in the Union Tribune but I really don't think so. Heck, I even read the little tiny police reports from all the towns in the area so I'm really sure I would have seen something about it. I'll keep watching and looking though.
sigh.. pardon the severe grammatical errors.. it is one of those days!

Checking in from Country Inn & Suites near Sea World. Dang, it's great to have Internet wireless.
Since we just got here, there's nothing to report ... except, why would a terrorist want to pick on the theme parks here? It's almost impossible to get around in traffic. :-)
We're off to Downtown Disney for dinner and a visit afterward to Lego Imagination Center, at our son's behest. In the meantime, I will be ever vigilant. I may look like a normal dad, but behind the jeans, striped shirt and sandals lurks a terrorist hunter. I will keep my eyes peeled (what does that mean, anyway?).
Tomorrow morning, we're going to Sea World - which includes having lunch at Shark Encounter and an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour (arranged by my sister-in-law, who works for Busch Entertainment). As always, my terror radar will be on. Wish me luck on my dangerous mission.
Stay safe.

"India's First Female Bomber Strikes"

By MUJTABA ALI AHMAD
Associated Press Writer
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "SRINAGAR, India (AP) - As other militants lay down their arms to help earthquake victims, a female suicide bomber blew herself up Thursday near an Indian army convoy, the first such attack by a woman in the Kashmir region.
A militant group claimed five soldiers were killed in the blast, but police denied this, saying there were no other casualties.
The explosion shattered the glass windows of several buildings in the area in Awantipora, a town nearly 20 miles south of Srinagar, the capital of India's Jammu-Kashmir state, Nissar Ahmad, a police officer, told The Associated Press.
The attack was about 80 miles south of the areas of Kashmir affected by Saturday's earthquake."

"Its 24 hrs over, cops yet clueless of 'suicide bomber'"
Friday October 14 2005 00:00 IST
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "HYDERABAD: Twenty-four-hours after the blast in the City Police Commissioner's Task Force office near Kundanbagh which claimed two lives -- home guard E Satyanarayana and an yet to be identified youth on Dasara holiday -- the police remain clueless.
The blast spot is dangerously near the residence of Chief Minister YS Rajashekara Reddy.
The police retrieved torn pieces of paper on which Jihadi intekham-75' (Revenge of Holy Warrior-75) was written in English. This points to the possibility of the unidentified youth being a suicide bomber belonging to an ISI group, but police are not jumping to that conclusion immediately."
