After reading your comments to BykrBayb I just had to jump into the discussion.
First of all, I would guess you are a young person, maybe college age or a little more? The reason I mention this is that you are rather naive in that you believe only one side of a story and not consider the total picture.
Concerning Terri's wish, how can you totally believe her husband who really wasn't her husband any more. The fact he had a new family, quite a sum of money to inherited and the possibility that he was a controlling, abusive husband and might be responsible for her being in the situation she was in.
It was never proven her cerebral cortex had turned to spinal fluid. Many reliable doctors who examined her stated that she had minimal cognition and would certainly benefit from therapy. Why was she denied medical care, kept a prisoner in her room, under guard, for several years and not allowed ANY stimulation whatsoever, let alone being wheeled outside for a breath of fresh air.
With respect to the euthanasia situation, there is, IN FACT, a movement afoot in this country to make it legal. First step of course is patient requested, next step patient will have no say. We have several cases in California that fall right in line with Terri's case - the patient wants to live - doctors and spouses are saying NO.
I referenced your age earlier in this post because I am sure you were not around in the '30's and early '40's. I was a youngster then but was old enough to see what was happening in the Nazi movement. Death was sometimes the end result of having a mental problem or disability. My own father who was just a boy, suffered from shell shock among other physical problems due to malnutrition. About 1915 - 1917 his family immigrated to America (via Ellis Island) because things were not going well in Germany. It saved his life and he wound up a productive citizen.
The same thing is happening now in this Country. There is a growing movement to allow mercy killing/euthanasia - and some people follow that line of thought of thinking; "I certainly wouldn't want to live like that!" but, they are not the patient. It's not fair imposing one's thoughts on someone else.
The movement is going along as planned - after all - who would have thought that the test for a politician, judge or anyone who wishes to achieve a major public service post, is that of ceasing the life of an unborn fetus/baby - a future life.
Before challenging anyone please, study all aspects of a case and not take as gospel what might sound logical.
Thanks for listening.

Good morning, AnimalLover, and thank you for your thoughtful post.
First let me come clean about my age: I'll be 50 in a couple of months--not old enough for WWII, but no college kid either! I can see where you might get the impression that I have only heard one side of this story, but let me assure you that is not the case! Besides having lurked for months on the FR Schiavo threads, I post on several other boards where it was a hot topic of discussion. I have read the Schindlers' website, and Cheryl Ford's. I have even forced myself to plow through June Maxam's horrendous prose at the Empire Journal. On the other hand, I have also read all of the actual court transcripts and medical reports I could get my hands on--I'm talking here about the actual official documents, not the so-called "affidavits" at the Schindlers' site, though I read those, too. After weighing all the evidence, and having many online and offline discussions about the matter, I came to the conclusion that the Schindlers were simply not believable. There were many, many reasons for my arriving at this belief, with which I will not bore you at this time, but the quick version is the Schindlers were caught in many provable lies; they employed quacks to examine Mrs. Schiavo (the main one is even listed on QuackWatch) and represented those opinions as expert; they took a 4-hour video and deceptively edited it; they sold the list of good people who sent them money; they slandered and libelled Mr. Schiavo while protraying themselves as xtian;, the case was more litigated than any other of its type in history, and every single court ruled in Mr. Schiavo's favor; and, finally, Occam's Razor led me to the simplest explanation making the most sense, i.e. that the only reason Mr. Schiavo persisted through all the grief the Schindlers put him through was because he believed with all his heart that his wife would not have wanted her body to continue to exist under those circumstances.
If you haven't read any of the official documents, at least read the report of the Guardian ad litem. Much of what I believe is based ultimately on that document.
I understand that people feel strongly about this case, but I don't believe that anyone is well served by hyperbole and bombast. I found your post quite refreshing, and thank you again for it.
Peace to you,
Clyffe

Hi, animal lover. I have a new kitten who showed up in my pkg lot and I named her FEMA. I'll post her pics here next week. She's got lots of energy and is light as a feather.
Terri loved cats. HINO killed Terri's two healthy, young cats that she had rescued. HINO killed them right after Terri was (strangled without marks). Opinion of Dr. Michael Baden and I agree with Dr. Baden. FV
