I also heard that there was a number of rapes and other violent crimes committed among the refugee cows. Loooooting too!

There are reports that more than 4,000 cattle may have been killed in Cameron Parish (search) alone, where ranchers on horseback struggled to herd the animals into corrals attached to pickup trucks in the aftermath of Hurricane RitaIn the AFTERMATH? Will LA ever learn? Didn't we all know for about a week that Rita was headed towards them? At the first sign of trouble, take a few loads into auction. Then head the rest to high ground or load up at least the bulls and move them to friend's ranches on higher ground. Neighbors here started sheltering horses the Monday before.

Corrals attached to pickup trucks??? That must be a new thing...or a Southern thing. Or maybe the city slicker reporter did not recognize a cattle trailer when she saw one.
I hope they are able to save those who made it this long. If you have a spare prayer around, you might direct it upward for these ranchers and the animals they care for.

A spokesman for the Louisiana Cattlemen's Association says since all the coastal parishes had cattle, the number in trouble could be more than 30,000.
And by next week it will be a different total completely. Until all the cows are found (dead or alive) NO ONE can be sure who is reading this. Lets face it. So many of these so called facts that are reported turn out to be INFLATED. Death tolls, etc....

The area that was hit by RITA is flatlands with not much more than oil wells and cattle. I heard an estimate of 5000 cattle dead -- I suspect that is an extreamly low number. I know the area very well.

The Army is using Blackhawk helicopters (search) to search for thousands of cattle feared stranded in the high water left behind by Hurricane Rita. Have you any idea how much it cost to operate those helicopters ?
You could buy a lot of cows for what it costs to fly one mission.
