DiCaprio is Theodore Roosevelt
Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese have been named by Paramount Pictures to respectively star and direct in the adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Edmund Morris book The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt, says Variety.
The film adaptation, currently being written by Nicholas Meyer (The Human Stain), will chronicle the political career of Roosevelt (DiCaprio), from a slight and privileged New York politician with a Harvard degree, right up to his ascension to the White House as the 26th U.S. president.
At present, DiCaprio and Scorsese are working on their third film together - after Gangs of New York and The Aviator - entitled The Departed, the Warner Bros. remake of the Hong Kong crime drama Infernal Affairs.
They are having a she-man play a he-man?
Is Sinise being ignored because he is patriotic and supports our troops?
I imagine there will be extensive storyline surrounding dicaprio and the teddybear

I don't think so.
Anyone who has read "The Rise of Theordore Roosevelt" would understand that as a young man, TR was frail and sickly. He fixed that by starting a ranch in the Dakota Territory. After a few years of "roughing it" and by shear determiniation, TR came back as the mentally and physically tough man whose image is carved on Mt Rushmore.
That said, Leonardo DiCaprio may be an excellent choice for a young TR. Hayden Christenson might also have worked as well (the thought of Darth Vader as the man responsible for "gunboat diplomacy" may be too much).
Having read the book, as well, I see your point. Sickly, however is not the same as prissy.
Let's not exaggerate here.
My nickname in my College frat was Teddy - I look nothing like DiCaprio. They should have Boulton play the part.
Perhaps not prissy, but Morris does point out that TR was always among the best dressed at Harvard, and he drove a fancy carriage.
I used to think that about Leo too, but I've had to admit he can just flat out act. His portrayal of Howard Hughes was one of the best acting jobs I've seen in years. He was much better than Jamie Foxx in "Ray" and should have won best actor. Granted, a skinny smaller guy like Leo playing a big, physical guy like TR is a stretch, but in terms of acting chops I have no doubt Leo could pull it off.
You've just stated, very clearly, that you don't have a clue because you're ignorant of the film.
DiCaprio did an excellent job of portraying Howard Hughes - much, much better than I expected him to do. Cate Blanchett was a stunning Kate Hepburn and Ava Gardner was beautifully portrayed by Kate Beckinsale.
Saw it twice in the theatre and three more times at home on the DVD I purchased.
DiCaprio's TR may be equally excellent; we'll just have to wait and see.
Good to know I'm not alone in liking the Aviator. After Gangs of NY I wasn't holding out much hope, but it was an excellent movie. I particularly liked the Gardner character.
De Niro is in his sixties and is on the downward slope of where he can put enough butts in seats to justify a $90 mil budget.
Di Caprio is on the upward slope of "movie stardom" and can attract the financing and requisite butts in seats.
In truth, he's not a bad actor for a "movie star," which is probably something else "Marty" likes.

Exactly what I said, not only did he not look like the guy, he also came across as someone trying too much to act like Howard Hughes which was distracting as hell. That`s exactly how High school kids act who are trying too hard to impress. There`s a million actors out there who not only could have looked more like HH (like Edward Norton), but could have done it a million times better. Instead the studios think they`re going to get another "Titanic" by casting Leo Di Girlio in every freggin` movie that comes along. It`s all about money, that`s all it`s about and if the pants are 20 sizes too big, too bad, they`ll make them fit. That`s why Gangs of New York failed. Gangs of New York was one of the greatest books I ever read, and I couldn`t believe what they did to that. It was like some la di da musical without the music. I half expected them to break out in dance during the fight scenes.
