It appears that the prima donna and her (foreign) husband arranged a country-house party after what they supposed would be the English fashion. The guests were assembled, the music struck up, when the husband appeared running down the staircase. 'You must all go away. I have found a man in bed with my wife.'
"Consternated, the guests hardly knew what to do and were preparing to leave when the husband appeared again: 'You must all come back. It is quite all right. He has apologized.'"
