They aren't going to get it without a fight from me...I am going to call and e-mail both of my Senators and my Rep. Joe Barton....
I plan on telling them that LA needs to be responsible for some of that money...if for no other reason than the stupidity of the local and state officials..and the corruption that kept the repairs to the levee from being done----
I also intend to tell them that I don't want any $$$$ going to reconstruction in NO until the levees are fixed the CORRECT WAY...not a quick-fix...and NOT by a LA firm if it doesn't have a better idea than a firm from out of state...
I DO NOT want it to be written in a resolution that LA businesses AUTOMATICALLY get all of the contracts...
Why fix even ONE house, if the levees aren't fixed???
Congress taketh away, then Congress giveth. My guess is that teh below is but one example of "just under the radar."
US Congress is probably as corrupt as Louisiana, and US COngress has lots more power and our money to "play" with.

Public Law 104-303SEC. 325. LAKE PONTCHARTRAIN, LOUISIANA.
The project for hurricane damage prevention and flood control, Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana, authorized by section 204 of the Flood Control Act of 1965 (79 Stat. 1077), is modified to provide that St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, and the Lake Borgne Basin Levee District, Louisiana, shall not be required to pay the unpaid balance, including interest, of the non-Federal cost-share of the project.
