David Brooks was on C-SPAN a little while ago at the national book festival, and he made the argument that support for the war in Iraq has been falling precisely because there is no significant anti-war movement (which would drive people away).

I don't trust their reported numbers, period!

I knew this thing was going to be a flop when I went into the office in DC this morning. Although I should have known better, I was worried about heavy traffic on 66 heading towards DC. Traffic was extremely light at 9 am and streets around the building(2 blocks from the Ellipse and 1 block from Constitution) were deserted except for clusters of cops at each intersection. There was literally no one on the streets. Any event with 100,000 people is going to clog the streets for blocks around.

Balderdash. Iraq hasn't been in the headlines for awhile. The October 15th referendum is three weeks away but the Left can't bring itself to notice Iraq is holding another free election this year. And if the Constitution is adopted, there will be yet another election for a permanent national government in December. With all this good news, the anti-war movement needs a booster shot. Even Z-man can't seem to produce the kind of horrific bloodbath scenes we've been seeing from him for the better part of a year and a half. What's the Left to do?

Strange. If you do an advanced Google Search for "Sheehan" and "2,000" from "CNN" there's an article that gives an estimate of 2,000 attending the rally. However, that sentence only appears on the search results page. If you click on the article, the sentence does not appear.

Thanks. I don't even charge a cover fee, although there is a two drink minimum.

Boy, this is some really shitty music. (And I actually like some of the "hippy" stuff.) Who's the guy in the red shirt how can't sing and just played an unspeakably lame, unispired guitar solo?

Lyndon Johnson picked Ramsey Clark for Attorney General. Truman put his father, Tom Clark, on the Supreme Court. Truman later said that was his biggest mistake as President. Supposedly LBJ's purpose in selecting Ramsey Clark for AG at least in part was to pressure Tom Clark to retire.

Hmmm. "Wayne Kramer and The Bellways". Another tired, half-assed guitar lick; singing unconvincingly about his "great big amp". Amy Goodman mouthing conspiracy theory. Something about Amtrack monkeying with the train schedule to keep the masses away from the rally and concert.

My best guess is 10,000...or however many you can put in a wide street a block long.

I saw a quote where Truman called Tom Clark the "dumbest S.O.B." he'd ever appointed.

Yup! It's Cindy Sheetbag, on again. I guess she's gonna speak from the stage soon. I can't wait. Too bad we lost all the other Freepers who thought it was over when CSPAN cut it off. They'd be lovin' this. Crappy entertainment, and even crappier speakers!

A large rally of anti-war demonstrators gathers on the Ellipse near the White House (top) as seen from the top of the Washington Monument in Washington D.C. September 24, 2005. Tens of thousands of protesters gathered in the nation's capital in support of anti-war protestor Cindy Sheehan, who lost a son serving in the U.S. armed forces in Iraq, and demonstrated for the withdrawal of U.S. troops and an end to the war in Iraq. I didn't watch the part where Jim Henson was mentioned, but today would have been his birthday.
