Yesterday at the local Wal-Mart, I stopped to hand some spare cash to a schoolgirl, who was taking donations for Katrina relief. I talked to the kid's teacher, thanking her for spearheading this.

She told me the "government" had failed the folks in Mississippi. Rather than fuss at her, I reminded her that "WE" are the government, and that we as individuals can and must help.

The donations are going to an individual Mississippi middle school, where a friend of the local teacher works.
