As opposed to many of the old-timers...
Director William Wellman flew with the French in WW I.
Jimmy Stewart was a colonel in the Air Force.
Clark Gable served in the Air Force also.
Tyrone Power was in the USMC.
Robert Montgomery in the USN
Dennis Franz served in 'Nam in the USA.
And on and on...... Now we have idiots like Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, and Alec Baldwin!
Let's not forget John Ford, who served in the Navy in both world wars, Humphrey Bogart was in the Navy in WWI, and Walter Brennan in the AEF of the US Army in WWI.
Also, there are other vets in Hollyweird:
Don Adams ("Maxwell Smart"), USMC
Sinbad (Comedian), USAF missle maintenance technician
Sherman Hemsley ("George Jefferson"), USAF
Larry Hagman ("Maj. Nelson"), actually did serve in the USAF
Johnny Cash, SSGT USAF
Jerry Reed, USAF
Mel Tillis, USAF
George "Goober" Lindsey, USAF
"Tennessee" Ernie Ford, bombardier on B-29s, USAF
Lesser names include Tim Holt (B westerns and some A pictures), B-29 navigator, USAF
Wayne Morris (Warner Brothers contract player, and later B western actor....career derailed because of wartime service) F6F "Hellcat" pilot, 5 kills, USN
Lee Powell (the first "Lone Ranger" in a 1938 serial), USMC...killed on Saipan
And familiar names include DeForrest Kelley ("Dr. McCoy" on "Star Trek"), USAF
Leonard Nimoy, US Army
David Janssen, US Army
Lee Van Cleef, US Navy
Don Rickles, US Navy
Chuck Norris, USAF
There are quite a few veterans in Hollyweird....the shame is there just aren't as many as there used to be.
