I think this article is bs. While I don't fault the author for the intention, I doubt adultery is all that prevalent. And I don't think internet porn is leading to adultery, in fact I would argue that internet porn prevents adultery---a guy can spank the monkey in front of the computer---and never have to cheat on his wife.

Men are not flashlights; sex twice a day with the spouse doesn't drain some of them. The sight of the a woman refreshes them. It's called "the Coolidge Effect."
To: af_vet_1981
Isn't it sad how many posters seem hooked on pornography. They can't let any threat to their addiction of choice go unchallenged.
Ah, this fallacy rears its ugly head again.
It is disingenuous, if not downright silly, to suggest that those of us who prefer to hold people responsible for their own actions are "hooked on pornography."

While there's plenty of bigots around here, Petronski's probably one of the last people who can credibly be called one.
That said, the "execution for adultery" comment that started all this is also the viewpoint of a group of Christians called "reconstructionists". They are to Christianity what the fundamentalist nuts are to Islam, though fortunately much smaller and less powerful. Worldwide, anyway. There aren't too many fundamentalist Muslims in America.
People like this prove the point that the problem is never religious beliefs, it's attempts to codify them into criminal law.

That's an awesome reply. Sounds like something I or my grandfather would say. Any chance you are Italian-American?
To: dirknowitzki
No, I wish I had some Italian relatives, though! They're the only ones who can cook great Italian food, I'm very poor at it!
I'm German-American and my husband is Polish-American, so we are both hard-heads!
To: wagglebee
The fallacy of reports on sexual behavior like this is that the conclusions are usually based on surveys. The problem is that the only people who would take the survey also have a personality type that would cause them to engage in high-risk sexual behavior. In short, the sampling is biased.

Wow. Just... wow.
Scary how things like porn brings out the inner Stalin in some "conservatives."
They're so afraid that some of their fellow citizens would actually exercise their freedom in a "non-approved" fashion.
Very disturbing.

Exactly, showing emotion only validates their empowerment. Blowing them off like a telemarketer afterwords does wonders for paying a cheating spouse back.

Women (and men, but this is basically about women) love to get a reaction out of a man - any kind of reaction will do. That's why one might take delight in making a man they love jealous, for example. It gives them a thrill, even if they have no intention of actually following through (pairing off with a guy besides their boyfriend, for example).
So when they make noise about leaving, or actually do leave, in their mind they have a script where the man in their life gets angry, animated, etc.
By deviating from the script, you short circuit their expectations and undermine any delight/thrill they might get from dumping you (in their mind, she is the best thing that ever happened to you and the best you could hope for).
By acting indifferent (no extreme reaction at all - overstated anger or overstated profession of undying love), it's truly one of the most potent weapons in a man's arsenal to cause mental and emotional pain on her. It's one of the meanest things you can do.
And I have been known to be a mean little fellow from time to time, when provoked. ;-)

Aren't you capable of having a serious discussion without the namecalling?
It does you no credit. That's a Lib trick.

I don't think addicts are capable of having a serious discussion about addiction. It is all noise.

Thanks. I've done fairly well financially, which has presented a few problems when trying to raise your children the correct way. Thank God that my wife understands that disappointments build character. We don't aim to constantly disappoint them, but they don't get everything they ask for either (by any means).
One Christmas in particular stands out in this regard. My son was 6 and had asked for several things, but one thing stood out in particular. My wife asked me to take the kids to a movie so that she could shop. I told her to deny him that one gift that he'd been so insistent on. It took some convincing but she finally agreed.
When he didn't get the gift he was clearly disappointed, just as one might expect. I used the opportunity to give the the "you can't always get what you want" speech. He responded marvelously.

I know it's tough trying to do the right things by your kids when there is so much out there. They see so much and it's ashame. But, they will understand as they get older. They will thank you too. So many kids have rooms DEVOTED to toys and playthings. Wow, we played wherever in the house. Living room, dining room, kitchen...wherever. If we got too loud or in the way our parents would just tell us to hold it down. :)
Well, I am certain it was hard for you and your wife to deny your little one a special gift. However, since he responded marvelously I hope you were able to get him whatever it was at a LATER date and....a SURPRISE for him.
Keep up the good work. It pays off!!!
