I'm about 30 miles due west of downtown Houston.
Right now it's a very pleasant day, unlike the last few days. Temperature is down, breeze picking up from the north, a few high clouds starting to swirl in from the northeast. I wouldn't mind keeping a hurricane offshore permanently, although I think it's probably just beating the heck out of my company's offshore platforms at the moment.
I was late in contacting family in the La Porte area and I'm assuming they are gone. That area south of Baytown was a mandatory evac, wasn't it? And, do you know if the traffic out of town is any better at all? I'm hoping they are all not out on the highway somewhere.
I'm in northwest Houston - around 290 and Barker Cypress. It's pleasant here, too. Thank goodness, since our air conditioning went out today. Guess I might as well get used to that, though.....
I work for an oil company also - ConocoPhillips.
