Didn't an oxygen tank explosion cause a ValueJet plane crash in Florida a few years back?
Those were chemical oxygen generators. They produce pure oxygen from a chemical reaction, which makes them a lot more compact than a tank. But the reaction produces a LOT of heat. One or more of the generators activated in the plane's cargo hold and the heat started a fire in the luggage. And with all that oxygen to feed the fire, it quickly got out of control.
