Yeah, SS needs to be reformed, but nobody cares about it TODAY (as I said in my previous post). Americans, especially the GOP base, want results in other areas that would give Bush much, much higher poll ratings and credibility to pass SS reform later.
Bush's harping about SS right from the gates of the '04 election was a total WTF? for me when there are so many other pressing issues. A total waste of "political capital."

Politically you may be correct but SS and the New Deal is the founding of the Progressive Constitution , so I see it as a fundamentally vital issue to change course in this country. We can continue towards nanny state dependency or we can muster the spirit of America again. IMO President Bush has lost his poll numbers not from the lost love of leftists but from the loss of support from his base for not following through on his Conservative platform. But that is just my opinion. The constant criticism of the left does have an effect on people whether we like it or not so we need to support all fundamental Conservative principles with vigor.
