I was born in Burlington, spent a lot of time in Nags Head, was in Rodanthe, Morehead City and New Bern in June of this year. Yes NC has a lot of hurricanes. I passed through Wilmington a few days after Fran hit in 1996. I am telling you that you cannot compare a TS Ophelia (which you mentioned first) with a Cat 4/5 Rita.
If Rita were to follow the track still predicted this morning it would have been the equivalent of going inland from Wilmington to Cape Hatteras and staying a Cat 1 to Raleigh. In this case at least, Perry has had a much more serious situation to deal with than Easley faced with Ophelia.

BTW, Ophelia was a CAT 1, almost a CAT 2.
And I wasn't comparing them; I was making the point that we've been dealing with them for YEARS wthout raping, pillaging, and murdering.
