If anyone knows where the Galveston buses are headed please post.
That is what our daughter did several years ago when she drove from the state of WA to AL. She had 2 dogs with her plus a bird.
200mph winds at 10K ft!
Whoa!
When I was in the AF, I was hoping to be assigned to hurricane hunter duty - I would absolutely revel in penetrating inside this beautiful monster - the wind shear must be completely awesome.
About the truck stops:I was thinkin the same thing.
There are hundreds if not thousands of Loves Travel centers around the south,, some have security, doubt if any would mind having a few extra visitors. Showers and "food" available too.
Get the hell out, you hard headed " I'm staying folks"
There are places you can hole up instead of going to what could be a hell hole shelter.
The only thing better would be if Troy's bowtie started spinning in the wind like a windmill!

"We have food, guns and chainsaws.
What about sandbags?"
With guns and chainsaws, shouldn't be any problem aquiring sandbags
Folks who don't evacuate may not live to wish they had.
From Jeff Masters:
http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/show.html
" [two key computer models] forecast that Rita will make landfall near Galveston, penetrate inland between 50 and 200 miles, then slowly drift southwestward for nearly two days, as a high pressure ridge will build in to her north. Finally, a second trough is forecast to lift Rita out of Texas on Tuesday. If this scenario develops, not only will the coast receive catastrophic damage from the storm surge, but interior Texas, including the Dallas/Fort Worth area, might see a deluge of 15 - 30 inches of rain. A huge portion of Texas would be a disaster area. The models are not suggesting this at all, but is also possible that Rita may not make landfall on Saturday as expected, but pull up just short of the Texas coast and pound it for days as it waits for the next trough to pick her up. We'll have to wait for the next set of model runs due out by tomorrow morning to know better."
ping
Pasadena, Texas City for some.
Just drive drive drive to safety and sleep in your car. Yep.
Texas City on Galveston bay is the closest, several of them there.STNP in Wadsworth could be in danger.
The buses are heading to Huntsville.
We could use all the access methods... e.g. QTAM *g
Good deal: I knew those Z's were out there someplace!
I'm watching KPRC-TV Houston; Pasadena's mayor is on the air now announcing a manditory evacuation beginning at 6A tomorrow.
my god.
