Check in with somebody, okay?

If you want it, I'll give you my cell number.

That's fine. I'll be happy to check in, but I am more concerned about the folks who are going to hold out here in town. I have never been through one of these, but I know they are terribly unpredictable - and that's why I am leaving.

If all goes well, I should be checking in tomorrow afternoon or evening from a safe hotel room somewhere in Oklahoma.

Following up. I am not leaving town after all. I waited until it was too late. Attribute this to inexperience. I honestly had no perception of what the highways would look like today. They're currently trying to open most of the inbound lanes to the city of Houston, to outbound traffic. I was just out to look at I-45 and it is crawling, just as it was yesterday.

I am going to the house of some friends, who called me last night, talked me out of my plan to leave this morning, and invited me to stay with them.

The latest storm track is beginning to look less terrible than it did yesterday, but I don't think anyone is taking any chances.
