My mom is a widow lady that still lives in Austin. Is it gonna be safe there or do I need to get her out?

Should be, at least let's hope. I have neighbors going to Austin for refuge. My family and I are headed for Waco Friday. Too many trees around my house and property to chance any coming down on the house during the hard blow that's coming. And I'm in east Montgomery County, who would've ever thunk it possible.?.?

Austin is far enuf inland that she should be okay. Rita should lose much of her strength by the time she gets near the Austin area - depending upon Rita's path. However, there could be tornadoes spawned around the Austin area - so definitey stay aware.

I guess that still doesnt answer your concerns. Sorry.

As I see it right now, the storm will weaken once it makes landfall so by the time it reaches Austin it would most likely be a strong storm, but not a hurricane.

If my mom were there I'd see if I couldn't make contact with one of her neighbors so someone near by would know to check on her if things got really rough in her area.

I'd also keep a close eye on Rita and move to get her out if it looked as though real trouble was headed there by Friday afternoon.

Your Mom should be fine, just check on her this weekend. Austin is a very good town to be in, unless she lives in a flood zone.

I have a sweet pea of sister that lives in Austin. Should things get rough in your mom's area, please contact me via freepmail. I'll be happy to call sis and have her assist your mom in any way possible.

I spent three years in Austin and my brother in law is a cop there. I'm sending my family there tomorrow. She will be fine IF she is not in a flood prone area in one of the valleys and is prepared for no water or electricity for 5 days.
