I have a son and daughter both living in Houston. They said there is not a loaf of bread or a bottle of water to be found anywhere. It is already difficult to get through to them on their cell phones. And the traffic is a nightmare. I just moved to Las Vegas from Houston after living there for 15 years. All my friends with small children are trying to leave now but my children are staying and riding out the storm. This site is fast becoming my lifeline for information. Thanks to all of you for information.

Tell'em to keep their powder dry. My family will be praying for yours.

I can vouch for the stories. Gas is running out in a lot of gas stations. I went to 2 stations and no gas. I waited for water for 2 hours in Wal Mart and was one of the lucky ones. A lot of people were in line but did not get any water. Talked to a lady in line and she said she tried to get a room somewhere in Texas and the closest place she could get was Lubbock (570 miles away).

Traffic is plain nuts. I was going to ride this one out (I am in NW Houston) but I am thinking about getting out of here if it turns into a Cat 5 and goes north.

It is 100 degrees here in Houston right now. I am not exagerating. It has been hotter than it usually has in the past 4 weeks. The Gulf must be like gasoline right now for Rita.

I was here in '84 for Alicia and the thing that was the worst was having no power for 4 days in this kind of heat and humidity.

I think if I lived where my brother lives (nw Houston, I would stay. If I lived where I used to live (Pearland, and on a street that flooded a lot cause it was in a hole) I would have gone and stayed at my brother's house...But this is in part because I expect the storm to hit between Port O'Connor and Corpus. And Houston is not New Orleans...Geography makes a diference.
