Adm. Allen is correct in reminding Nagin that if he brings all those people back in to NO so soon, he'll need to have a plan to get them out because the levee system is no longer Cat 3 resistant. TD #18 has a projected track into the GOM and after that who knows yet. Katrina went across So. Florida, need we say more?

It was expected. I saw the 'African waves' diagram on the forecast 2 days ago and said "Here we go again."

I have so far this season avoided putting the ply wood up on the windows. I sure hope this storm gets cut to pieces before it reaches Florida.

Statement as of 10:41 PM EDT on September 17, 2005... Interests in South Florida should closely monitor Tropical Depression Eighteen...
The surface low pressure system located east-northeast of the Turks and Caicos
Islands has become better organized tonight and is now tropical depression
18. The system is moving west northwest around 10 mph. This system is
forecast to move across the Florida Straits from late Monday
through Tuesday. Its effects across South Florida are yet
uncertain but residents across South Florida are advised to
monitor statements issued by the National Hurricane Center and the
National Weather Service office in Miami in case watches or
warnings become necessary later on Sunday. This system is forecast
to reach hurricane intensity as it moves across The Straits.

Holy cow! The
NHC page is sure lit up. In the Atlantic: TS Ophelia, Philippe, and TD #18. In the Pacific Hurricane Kenneth and Jova and TS Lidia.
