Thought I would start a thread on the New Zealand general election - returns starting to come in now.
Non-NZ FReepers can try the live streams of Channel One News, http://tvnz.co.nz/view/news_minisite_index_skin/news_election_2005_group
or 3 News, http://www.tv3.co.nz/listings/index.cfm
Yeah it's breaking up for me too now. We have got spoiled. ;)
15% -- and it looks like Hulun's had the duck!
Way to go, Kiwis!
14.9% in and the Nat lead holds.
The audio stream is holding up quite well, with intermittent gaps of buffering and "clicks" of dropped audio.
Yeah it only drops out on me when they give new numbers. :(
I agree, at this stage (with 5% of the vote counted), despite the gap between the National Party and Labour, it's "too close". I'm guessing the early returns are from the metro areas. (much like our returns here in the States)
Thanks for starting the thread!
I have the TV One stream on right now; it's working fairly well.

Yeah me too, but when they're talking about "what's on the dinner menu at Labour HQ" it's clean and clear. LOL!
ACT Party (right-leaning) doing well.
It may be a positive sign for National to be in the lead this early with a wide margin, given the global climate. (read: War On Terror).
Cool! Thanks for that link to Xtra MSN. The map there is similar to what BBC did during the Parliamentary elections earlier this year.
I should've added that there are links to other content on this site.

Yeah, the Xtra MSN site has a disclaimer saying "These Are Unofficial Results. Consult the Chief Electoral Office for official results."
RNZ breaking up badly now. Must be really swamped down there.
Lost the RNZ feed a couple minutes ago. It's stuck at 99% buffering and not receiving any stream.
If all goes to plan, there will be a good indication of the shape of the next government before midnight tonight.
Chief Electoral Officer David Henry is expecting a huge voter turnout today, based on the large number of advance votes already cast.
He says there are 2,700 polling places across the country, manned by about 16,000 officials.
The northernmost booth is at Te Hapua School, about 20 kilometres from Cape Reinga, and the southernmost is at Halfmoon Bay School on Stewart Island.
David Henry says in the smaller country polling stations there might be only two officials, but in the bigger city ones there could be about 20.
He says a preliminary count will begin once the polling stations close at seven o'clock tonight.
He expects to have half the polling places reported in by ten o'clock this evening and the rest by 11.30.
David Henry says results will start coming through about seven o'clock and he hopes to have all the advance votes counted by 8.30.
The results are phoned through to the approximately 60 returning officers, and they are put straight into a computer system.
He says they will be displayed at the Electoral Office headquarters and will also go directly to the media and onto the Internet.
Mr Henry says there are two counts, tonight's preliminary tally and the official count after election day.
Can you point those of us not terribly familiar with NZ politics/parties to one or more web pages that can serve as a primer?
Thanks bunches
