Turbin had a memo - which I believe was an agenda for a meeting - on which Roberts had made handwritten notes. One of the agenda items (something about Iran/Contra?)apparently distressed Turbin, and he thought that he was going to nail Roberts.
Roberts said "I did not participate in that meeting". Game over.
It came at the end of Turbin's first turn yesterday, if I recall. Check the transcript.
John Lewis of Georgia? Is he mean? Maybe I am confusing him with that Cummings of Georgia?
I think the "memo" was a list of various matters. The item circled was "Bob Jones," with a handwritten "for reply?" IIRC, Bob Jones was at the USSC when Roberts was clerking, and he was barred from having anything to do with the matter for two years following his clerkship.
Hahahahaha!! Thanks for that!!
It was about a case involving Bob Jones University in which John Roberts was barred from being involved within two years of serving as a clerk to Justice Rehnquist.
It did indeed amount to nothing, much like Mr. and Mrs. Durbin's boy
